About us
The Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) provides world class care for women, newborns and families across Western Australia.
It comprises King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), the Maternity Unit at Osborne Park Hospital and other specialist health services and key statewide programs, including BreastScreen WA and the Western Australian Gynaecologic Cancer Service. WNHS employs over 1,200 FTE.
Established in 1916, KEMH is the State’s only tertiary maternity and gynaecological hospital and the only referral centre for complex, high acuity pregnancies in WA.
KEMH:
- supports more than 5,000 births each year
- provides specialised services including, but not limited to, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Pregnancy Choice and Abortion Care, Pregnancy Loss Service, Women and Newborn Drug and Alcohol Service, and adolescent and diabetes services caring for the high-risk population in WA
- is proud to encompass all midwifery models of care with opportunities to work within Community Midwifery Program, Midwifery Group Practice, Midwifery Antenatal Postnatal Service and complex multi-disciplinary teams. It has more than 60 endorsed midwives working across the organisation ensuring midwives are able to work to their full scope.
- is home to a state-of-the-art special care nursery
- provides comprehensive gynaecological services supporting around 5,000 women annually.
OPH:
- supports more than 1,500 births each year
- provides gynaecology care and obstetric care to women with low to moderate risk pregnancies at a smaller, suburban site
- provides a full range of support services including social workers, physiotherapists, lactation consultants and dietitians.
